How to Create a Google Review Link and QR Code

Follow Google's current desktop steps to copy your review link, download its QR code, test both paths, and place them without gating customers.

To create a Google review link or QR code, open your Business Profile in a computer browser and select Read Reviews, then Get more reviews. Copy the link for emails and messages, or save the QR image for printed materials. Test that it opens the correct location before sharing it. Give eligible customers the same voluntary route without incentives, pressure, or sentiment filtering.

If you are still choosing a request channel, compare these fair ways to get more Google reviews.

What is a Google review QR code?

A Google review QR code is a scannable image that opens the review form for one Google Business Profile. It saves a customer from searching for the business, choosing among similarly named locations, and finding the review button.

The code still points to a web destination. A customer needs a phone or tablet that can scan it, an internet connection, and a Google Account to leave the review. Google says that account can use a non-Gmail address. A printed code should therefore sit beside a short written instruction or visible text link; the image cannot be the only route.

Google's current help page says you can create the QR code only in a computer browser. We checked that interface detail on 2026-08-23. Google: create a link or QR code to request reviews

How to create a Google review link and QR code

Use the Business Profile that owns the location you want customers to review. Google's steps, checked on 2026-08-23, are:

  1. On a computer, open the Business Profile while signed in to the Google Account that manages it.
  2. Select Read Reviews, then Get more reviews.
  3. To use the link, select Copy. To save the QR code, right-click the code and choose Save image as.
  4. Keep the saved file with the location name and check date, then test both routes before distribution.

These labels can change as Google updates its interface. Recheck the official setup instructions when the authorized owner captures screenshots and again within 24 hours of publication approval.

Google can change these labels without notice. If the steps on your Business Profile look different, check Google’s current help page before creating or printing a new QR code.

How to test the Google review link before sharing it

Test the copied link as if you had never seen it. First, confirm that the business name and location shown on the destination are the intended profile. A correct-looking link for the wrong branch is still a failed test.

Then run this QA list:

  • Open the link on a current iPhone and a current Android phone.
  • Open it once while signed in to Google and once while signed out.
  • Confirm that the signed-out route asks for a Google Account sign-in; Google documents that requirement, so it is not a broken link. Google: tips to get more reviews
  • Check the link from the actual email, chat, invoice, or page where it will appear. A copied draft is not enough.
  • Verify that the link text explains where it goes and does not promise a reward or ask for a particular rating.

Test the finished link on both iPhone and Android before you share it. Confirm that it opens the correct location, and check the signed-out path so customers are not surprised when Google asks them to sign in.

How to test and print the QR code

Print the final artifact at its intended size before ordering a large batch. A code that scans from a laptop screen can fail after a printer softens its edges, a designer reduces its quiet space, or a glossy sign reflects overhead light.

Scan the final print with at least one current iOS device and one current Android device. Test it from the distance a customer will actually use, under the lighting at the display site. Do not crop the white border, stretch the image, place it over a busy photograph, or add another graphic inside the code.

Give the print piece a dated file name and record its dimensions. If the design changes, run the physical scan again; approval of the earlier file does not cover a resized export.

Test the exact printed piece before ordering a large batch. A code that works on screen can fail after it is resized, cropped, or printed on a reflective surface.

Where to place a Google review QR code

Put a QR code at a natural post-service touchpoint where a customer can choose to use it without staff watching. Google lists receipts, thank-you emails, the end of a chat, and in-store displays as supported examples. Google setup page, checked 2026-08-23

Printed leave-behindQR plus written linkScans laterTest the final size and paper finishDo not tie the request to a benefitReadable link and business name

Do not treat one placement as a promised source of reviews. The right choice depends on the customer journey, physical setting, and whether the route still works for someone who cannot or does not want to scan a code.

What to say next to the QR code

Use a neutral request that asks for an honest account of the customer's experience. It should identify the destination and leave the decision with the customer.

Each example below is fictional:

  • Receipt: “Visited us today? You can share an honest Google review using this code.”
  • Thank-you email: “Thank you for choosing Northside Repair. If you would like to share your experience, use this Google review link.”
  • Office sign: “Share your experience on Google. Scan the code or visit the written link below.”
  • Pressure-heavy draft: “Give us five stars before you leave.” Fair rewrite: “If you choose, you can share an honest Google review after your visit.”

The fair version does not predict sentiment, request five stars, or make service depend on a review.

What Google does not allow in review requests

Google Maps policy bars incentives for reviews, discouraging negative reviews, selectively asking for positive reviews, pressuring people to review while on the premises, and requesting specific review content. It permits requests based on a genuine experience when the business does not try to influence the rating or wording. Google Maps prohibited and restricted content, checked 2026-08-23

Use the same eligibility rule for every customer with a genuine experience. Private support can remain available, but it should not replace the public route only for people who report a problem. Read how to ask for reviews without filtering customers before adding a satisfaction survey or branching request flow.

Do not offer a discount, free item, entry, or service credit for a Google review. Google applies its no-incentive rule even if the business says the review may be negative.

How to fix common Google review QR code problems

If the code opens the wrong location, discard the asset, reopen the intended profile, and create a new one. Do not patch the label while leaving the destination unchanged.

If a phone will not scan it, restore the unedited saved image, keep clear space around it, increase its printed size, and retest under the real lighting. If only the print fails, compare the final export with the saved source file.

If the link opens but the visitor cannot submit, check whether the visitor has signed in to a Google Account. Do not promise that every browser, device, account, or network state will behave identically.

If the Business Profile controls no longer match this guide, stop and consult Google's current help page before publishing new screenshots. Record the changed label, the date, and the authorized profile used for the check. The next valid screenshot set must show observed steps, not an edited reconstruction.
